Welcome To the 2010 League
News
JANUARY 8th 2010. The A.G.M. took place last night at Mexborough Athletic with all but one of the invited teams (Ings Lane) managing to get there in the awful weather conditions. All teams present accepted the balance sheet and the new league was formed with the start date of Thursday January 28th. A further interim meeting was arranged for Wednesday January 27th at Mexborough Athletic for all teams to pay their player registrations and hand in their singles, doubles and 3 man team entry sheets. The Annual presentation evening for this season was awarded by the committee to Mexborough Athletic.
JANUARY 26TH 2010. Notice to all delegates. Please note that the meeting tomorrow (27th) at Mexborough Athletic will commence at 7pm. Unfortunately we have lost the Ings Lane, so a new set of fixtures will be issued at the above meeting. 12 teams will now contest the league, playing each other three times.
JANUARY 28TH 2010. Thanks to all the delegates for turning up at last nights meeting. Due to the late withdrawal of Park Hotel A, the league will now go with 11 teams who the committee are sure will see the season out. Good luck to all teams for the new season! Please note that the deadline for the league accepting singles, doubles and three-man team entries is the next meeting at Swinton Station on Wednesday February 24th.
FEBRUARY 2ND 2010. Can all teams please be aware that the Falcon have been invited into the league to take the twelfth place, therefore eliminating the option of teams having a bye. They will enter the league on Thursday February 11th away at Station B, followed by a home match versus South Yorkshire on Thursday the 18th. They will be given Four weeks grace by the league from the next league meeting to catch up on their two outstanding matches (away at Swinton Sportsman and at home to Mexborough Athletic).
MARCH 3RD 2010. The preliminary rounds of the singles, doubles and three-man team knockout competitions were drawn out tonight by the secretary, chairman and committee member Malcolm Seddens and can be found by clicking on the "knockouts" tab above. The final deadline is Thursday March 18th with all matches starting at 8pm. There are a number of players who have been drawn out to play twice during the next 15 days and they must bring forward one of their matches. It is the obligation of the opposition to respect the re-arrangement and do all they can to accomodate the request.
MARCH 26TH 2010. Station A and the South Yorkshire were the absentees from the latest league meeting. The South Yorkshire have missed the first two league meetings and need to bring their finances up to date ASAP. The league are in contact with them with regard to this and i will keep everyone informed through this page. The league singles round 1 draw (last 64) has been made. It was drawn by Chairman Jim Linacre and committee member Malcolm Seddens before Wednesdays meeting and can be found by clicking the "knockout" tab. I make mention of the draw due to the staggering number of draws involving players from the same teams! The draw began normally and after 15 matches (30 players) everybody was spread out. After 25 matches (50 players) there were only two all-team clashes. Then amazingly, the last 7 matches (14 players) produced 6 draws involving players from their own teams. Can i advise everybody entered into the singles draw not to wait until the deadline night due to the high amount of matches at each venue and to re-arrange to play before. Using the excuse that there was too many matches on deadline night will not be accepted by the league as there was adequate time (18 days) in order to sort something out. Finally the latest round of singles and doubles player of the season figures have been collated and can be found by clicking the "awards" tab.
APRIL 16TH 2010. The singles knockout first round deadline has now passed. Can all winners please text or e-mail in order to clarify the line-up for the next round.
APRIL 21ST 2010. Three teams failed to attend the third league meeting of the season. they are BOY and BARREL and SWINTON SPORTSMAN, who were fined the mandatory £6.00 and the SOUTH YORKSHIRE, who have created a league record by failing to have a delegate present for the first three consecutive meetings. They have now been stopped from playing with immediate effect and fined £24.00, which mean they now have to pay the total of £72.00 before being allowed to carry on in this league. Their home match v SWINTON SPORTSMAN scheduled for tomorrow night is obviously now cancelled. The first round of the doubles knockout has been drawn and can be found by clicking the "Knockout" tab. Three times world pool champion Gareth Potts will be appearing at the Falcon Mexborough on Sunday May 23rd from 8pm onwards and all are welcome.Gareth will be doing an exhibition of trick-shots and then taking on allcomers. It will be a great night of pool and Host Steve Bennett has asked the league to inform any would-be challengers to contact him on 07525065504 as it will be on a first come-first served basis.
APRIL 23RD 2010. It is with great sadness that i have to report the death of Paul Evans. Paul was a former work colleague of mine and has been a member of the pool league for as long as i can remember, playing for various teams including his present team Mexborough Athletic. The league would like to offer it's deepest condolences to Pauls family and friends at this tragic time.
MAY 14TH 2010. The deadline has now passed for the doubles first round and it would be appreciated if all winners could let me know the result please. The South Yorkshire are still involved in the league after coming up to date with their finances. There are a few outstanding league results which need to be collated and these can be observed by clicking on the "results" tab.
JULY 23RD 2010. After announcing that the league has been running smoothly at the last meeting it seems that some teams are trying to make things harder by not informing us of their league results, no more so than last week (week 20, 15th July) as only two teams recorded their results. If i am to keep and post an up to date league table then all league results should be posted within the allocated time. Also, action will be taken against the Cresswell for canceling their match at the Boy and Barrell at 7-55 pm on the night of the match. It is important to remember that the league Secretary has to be informed of any cancellations in order to monitor the situation.
AUGUST 4TH 2010. Will all teams please note that the next meeting on Wednesday August 11th scheduled to be held at the South Yorkshire has been moved to the Falcon on the grounds that the South Yorkshire seems to be closed during the week. All team delegates have been informed by text.
AUGUST 12TH 2010. The main topic arising from last nights meeting was the deadlines for the singles and doubles knockouts. An error on my part resulted in putting the wrong deadlines date on the website. This has now been rectified and the deadline dates are as follows:- Singles deadline date is Wednesday 1st September (matches to be arranged and played), Doubles deadline date is Thursday 2nd September (Evening set aside for the matches). Please stick to these dates, thanks. |
